Moses wants to change the import of fuel

The Haitian government is considering changing the procedure for importing petroleum products. The Haitian head of state, Jovenel Moïse, indicates that officials and senior officials are working on new regulations that are beneficial for citizens.

It reveals that the state is, on a recurring basis, forced to seek monetary financing from the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) in order to import petroleum products. Mr. Moïse believes that the current system is favorable to entrepreneurs in the sector and harmful to the public treasury.

According to President Moïse, the debts of entrepreneurs can extend over 3 months. The state buys the fuel in cash and sells it on credit to the companies, regretted Mr. Moïse, judging that this can kill the nation.

During the last quarter, the debts of the companies exceeded 70 million dollars.

In addition, President Moïse suggested that monetary financing is essential to cover incomprehensible expenses. He points out that state revenues had fallen sharply between October 2019 and June 2020. The 4 months of the Country Lok political protest and the 4 months of the Coronavirus pandemic prevented revenue forecasts from being reached.
