Haiti news: Jovenel Moise announces contract with General Electric

The Haitian head of state, Jovenel Moïse, swears to win his bet to make electricity accessible 24 hours a day throughout the country. Mr. Moïse ensures that the miracle is now within reach thanks to a contract that will be signed with the American General Electric.

More than 200 megawatts will be added to the network, hinted Mr. Moïse determined to fulfill his promise.

President Moïse informs that the contract of 127 million dollars will be initialed during this week.

As part of the new project, the two Varreux power plants will produce more than 188 megawatts. It reveals that 20-megawatt motors will be installed in Varreux, Carrefour, and Cap Haitien.

These dual-fuel engines will run on fuel oil, natural gas, and propane.

The new metropolitan electricity network will extend from Bois Neuf to Leogane and should be completed within 18 to 24 months.

Thanks to funds from Taiwan, the network will grow from a current capacity of 252 megawatts to 800 megawatts. President Moïse reveals that the GE company will install 4 turbines in the Carrefour plant which will produce more than 120 megawatts.

The first phase of the project with GE will cost more than the US $ 57 million. In addition, the 130 megawatts solar will cost 65 million dollars.
