If because of the political unrest last September the President of the Republic could not take part in the 74th UN General Assembly in New York, Jovenel Moïse took advantage, Thursday, May 28, 2020, of a virtual summit to the United Nations to make its voice heard on its management of Covid-19.

“On the initiative of the United Nations, Canada and Jamaica, a high-level summit was held this Thursday dedicated to financing development in the era of Covid-19 and beyond. With several leaders, we discussed topics related to the search for solutions applicable on a global scale, "informed the head of state on his Twitter account.

"I invite our partners to join us in taking action and meeting the colossal challenges together. I assure you that Haiti will continue to honor its international commitments so that at the regional and global levels the answers are commensurate with the expectations of our peoples, "said Jovenel Moïse, still on Twitter.

The Haitian president added: "The scale of this crisis requires concerted global action. It calls for better targeted and more effective solidarity for the benefit of the most vulnerable peoples. It must lead us to an adjustment of the system of International Governance centered on the well-being of man. "

24 hours before this virtual UN summit, Jovenel Moïse had a video conference with the Prime Minister of Canada on the management of the Covid-19. “I had a cordial interview with the Prime Minister of Canada @JustinTrudeau. We discussed managing the pandemic and post-COVID-19. I thanked him for his spirit of gratitude to our compatriots, on the front line in the fight against the Covid-19, ”reported the tenant of the National Palace on his Twitter account.

The head of state also had video conferences this May with the presidents of Madagascar, the Dominican Republic, and Senegal on the pandemic.

President Moïse had officially requested the Malagasy president to send a quantity of COVID-Organics, a drug used in Madagascar in the treatment of coronavirus, to Haiti. “We have to reach the peak of the disease between this week and the middle of July. We hope to count on the solidarity of your country in addition to making lots of COVID-Organics available to us. I would suggest that the Haitian scientific committee works with Madagascan scientists for greater development of our medicinal plants, ”asked Mr. Moïse.

At this request from President Moïse, Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina stressed that there are several requests for help from friendly countries in this regard. “With regard to Haiti, we are ready, Mr. President, to help your country. We will send CVO #CovidOrganics and put our scientific committees in touch. The Africa-Caribbean relationship is at the heart of our South-South cooperation approach, ”he promised.

In Haiti, the virus is spreading at an alarming rate, to say the least. In just four days. on May 24, 25, 26, and 27, the health authorities informed that they had registered 485 new cases of coronavirus and 8 deaths. This brings the situation, as of May 28, to 1,443 people infected, 35 deaths, and 22 patients declared cured.
