Two months after the start of the pandemic in Haiti, the authorities fear the worst-case scenario. The number of confirmed cases of the corona virus has already crossed the symbolic bar of 596.
The western department, which concentrates more than 80% of financial activity, is the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic. The West has 396 people infected and 12 deaths.
12 out of 20 municipalities have at least 1 case of contamination. The capital Port-au-Prince, leads in this sad table with 109 infected people and 3 deaths, followed by Delmas 102 infected people and 2 deaths, Pétion Ville 87 infected people and 1 death, Tabarre and Croix des Bouquets with 30 people each infected and 2 deaths from Croix des Bouquets.
Specialists were concerned about the situation in Cité Soleil but there has still been no exponential growth. The vast slum still has 7 infected people. In the commune of Carrefour, the largest, there are 17 infected people.
Health authorities expect the pandemic to increase sharply around the beginning of June 2020.
