The Minister of Public Works Transport and Communication, Mr. Joiseus Nader, promises an improvement in the electrical service in June 2020. The engineer Nader, who carried out an evaluation visit to the Péligre hydroelectric plant, this Tuesday, May 12, 2020, assured that the measures have been adopted to increase the supply of electric current in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince.
He informs that the two faulty turbines will be repaired before mid-June. At the same time, the first downpours will allow the plant to operate at full capacity by providing 54 megawatts on the network.
With regard to the Péligre excavation work, Minister Nader drew attention to the enormous cost of such an undertaking. It indicates that more than 350 million cubic meters of sediment in the lake could be extracted at the rate of 16 US dollars per cubic meter.
In addition, experts have indicated that more than 6 million cubic meters of sediment accumulate annually in the lake.
Minister Nader points out that total energy production should reach 100 megawatts by mid-June 2020.
