Police brutality against Mr. Patrick Benoît is unanimously condemned. Haitian Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe deplores the inhuman treatment of a 64-year-old man. He urged the Minister of Justice to launch an investigation into this file.

Mr. Benoît's lawyers reported this morning that the government commissioner at the Port-au-Prince first-year court, Jacques Lafontant, said that he had made arrangements for Mr. Benoît's release. He had been admitted to Bernard Mews Hospital that evening.

The lawyers inform that Mr. Benoît had a broken rib, a broken finger, and the torn brow bone.

They denounce the complicity of the titular judge of the Delmas Court of Peace, who witnessed the physical abuse inflicted on Mr. Benoît.

They maintain that Mr. Benoît was beaten up for more than 3 hours and kept in police custody despite his injuries.

The lawyers argued that the exequatur violates a state of an emergency provision prohibiting the enforcement of these court decisions during the coronavirus crisis period.

In addition, they report a collision between the justice of the peace and lawyers for the opposing party.
