The head of the Premature said that the country is also in a “state of food emergency

“The state of health emergency” will be renewed for an additional month in Haiti

The Jouthe government will renew for another month the “state of health emergency” in Haiti, the Prime Minister told the Nouvelliste exclusively on Sunday. The main restrictive measures will be maintained. Schools, universities, peristyles or voodoo temples, churches, mosques, and any other places of worship generally of any kind, international airports, land, and sea borders will remain closed…

This April 19 marks one month since the first two cases of coronavirus in the country were identified. Also, a month since the government declared a state of health emergency across the country to limit the spread of coronavirus in Haiti.

“We are going to renew the state of health emergency in the country for another month. The order will be issued this Monday, ”the head of government told Nouvelliste. "There will be practically the same provisions," said Joseph Jouthe.

The head of the Premature said that the country is also in a “state of food emergency”. Joseph Jouthe announced that the state of food emergency would be within the state of a health emergency.

The Prime Minister said that arrangements will be made to encourage the cultivation of short-cycle food.

One of the major changes in the renewal of the state of health emergency concerns factories. Indeed, this Monday, April 20, all workers in the subcontracting sector will resume work after a month of unemployment. "However, this reopening will take place at 30% of the turnout in the factories," said Joseph Jouthe.

The Prime Minister promises that his government will ensure that the factories respect the principles of hygiene such as availability in the workplace of water, soap, alcoholic solutions for washing the hands of workers. "If a factory does not meet these standards, it will be closed ipso facto," warned Joseph Jouthe.

The curfew, which went into effect on Friday, March 20, will be maintained, the head of government said. However, Mr. Jouthe called on the police not to brutalize people who violate the curfew.

One month after COVID-19 appeared in the country, Haiti officially recorded 44 cases of contamination, three deaths, and zero patients declared cured, according to health authorities. A month later, the authorities are struggling to keep their promises of accompaniment made to the people. A month later, people didn’t change their behavior. Most of them continue to believe that the government is lying to them about the existence of the disease in the country.
