Biography

Sounds Like: Melodic and epic house designed for the very biggest rooms

Haitian native Michael Brun has had music in his veins from day one. “Both my mom and dad played instruments,” reveals the polite, affable 21-year-old as we chat in his adopted home of Miami. “I was in the studio with my dad since I was a little baby.”

At 16, having already warmed up for Avicii when he visited Haiti, Michael was awarded a scholarship to a military school in the USA. There, while graduating to medical school, Brun began to make his own tunes which quickly reached the upper echelons of Hype Machine before getting his first proper release on Hardwell’s Revealed Recordings.

By the end of his pre-med year, the momentum behind his music was so great that, with the agreement of his tutors, he decided to take some time out from medicine to see how far he could take “this music thing”. And it’s gone quite a distance. He’s remixed big names including Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, Dirty South, Dash Berlin and Alicia Keys and has had solo hits via Dirty South’s Phazing Records, among others.

“I’m representing Haiti,” he explains. “The country has taken a lot of knocks with the earthquake and cholera outbreak, but we are resilient.” With a main stage performance at this year’s Ultra and a collaboration with underground house and techno don Kölsch (“I like the deeper stuff, too”) in the pipeline, Brun looks set to put Haiti on the map for all the right reasons.
