Dominican prevent protesters holding a planned activity on the occasion of the commemoration of the death of Jean-Jacques Dessalines at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo 

(After pressure from fascist sectors, authorities UASD were forced to withdraw authorization to be made at the ceremony of homage to Dessalines). 

SANTO DOMINGO - A planned at the initiative of the Haitian Federation of Associations and Organizations in the Dominican Republic (FEDAYODEH-RD) for ceremony to pay tribute to the hero of Haitian independence Jean-Jacques Dessalines, during commemorating the 208th anniversary of his assassination, could not be conducted as planned Thursday, October 10 at the Auditorium Manuel del Cabral of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). 

Singers invited Joel and Marjorie Lorquet Cajuste from Haiti, were therefore not able to provide them perform as part of this gathering which focused on awareness of the historical significance of the heroes of the struggle for the freedom of Haitian people. 

Indeed, a group of Dominicans including the Fuerza Nacional Progresista / National Progressive Force (FNP), presented with flags and placards in hand and organized a demonstration in front of the place where the ceremony was to take place in token of opposition to the commemoration of the death of a Haitian hero in the Dominican Republic. 

You could see the signs: "We demand a referendum for the mass deportation of Haitians." "We reject the Haitianization the country," or: "The junta denounces neighbors: Haitians are unbearable for the inhabitants of Gazcue." 

Note that the authorities of the Academy of the State of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), announced that they had canceled a few hours before the authorization was given to the Haitian Federation of Associations and Organizations of the Republic Dominican (FEDAYODEH-RD), use the auditorium Manuel del Cabral of Pedro Mir library for the conduct of socio-cultural ceremony. Indeed, around noon, Thursday, October 16, the president of the FEDAYODEH-RD, Patrick Moise received a phone call from the Vice-President, Rafael Nino Feliz, informing him of the withdrawal of the authorization to use the auditorium. Mr. Feliz was to deliver a speech at the ceremony, as a friend of the Haitian people, he said. 

The decision, which also has the support of the Dean, was hastily adopted following pressure from ultra-nationalist-fascist sectors Dominicans who see the development of this activity as "a crime" and decided to boycott. 

However, for many Haitian students, university authorities this measure is incompatible with the philosophy of the UASD and tradition of solidarity organization academia with the Haitian people. 

Indeed, Article 6 of the Constitution of the UASD states that "university life should be conducted in a spirit of democracy, justice and human solidarity. It will be open to all schools of thought, which will be presented and analyzed in a scientifically rigorous way. "

Leaders FEDAYODEH-RD were forced to post at the entrance of the Library Pedro Mir to apologize to the public who had traveled in large numbers to take part in the event. 

The ceremony entitled "Proposal and ten historic speech" was primarily to showcase the historical significance of the heroes of the freedom struggle of the Haitian people.
