The National Union of Haitians Normaliens (UNNOH) denounced the practices of squandering state funds that characterize this regime while that perceive teachers as salary does not allow them to meet their needs. "The US $ 20 000 that receives President Martelly as per diem per day during his travels abroad are 124 times the monthly salary of a teacher with a partial pulpit and 101 times more than that of a teacher basic level 1 and 2, "said Joshua Mérilien, national coordinator of the UNNOH.


"The salary of a teacher who holds a simple check equivalent to US $ 209 when the currency was 1 dollar for 43 gourdes now to 150 dollars because inflation. That of teachers of basic classes which was US $ 255 is reduced to 183 US dollars, with 1 dollar for 56 gourdes ", said Joshua Mérilien.
The UNNOH has, in this regard, announced two days of strike on 14 and 15 January 2016 in order to force those in power to meet the teachers' demands.


Adjustment and wage increase, appointment of qualified teachers, integration of graduating students of different normal schools recognized by the Ministry of Education, will be the main requests of teachers during these two days of strikes.
Furthermore, UNNOH invites different political actors to sit down together to find a "Haitian solution" to the electoral crisis that gnaws the country.
"It's not an election crisis, but in a critical situation that pushes more and more the people of Haiti in misery," lamented the head of the municipal coordination Port-au-Prince within the UNNOH, Ebens Cadet.
