Haiti News Politic: Gary Bodeau talks about investments and electricity with the Ambassador of Taiwan

On Monday in Parliament, the Deputy of Delmas Gary Bodeau, Speaker of the Lower House, spoke with the accredited Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China) in Haiti, Hu Cheng-hao about bilateral cooperation and how to attracting Taiwanese investors to Haiti, informed Gary Bodeau.

Hu also took the opportunity to review the $147 million loan agreement signed with the Haitian government.  for the strengthening and construction of an electricity grid in Port-au-Prince to alleviate the problems of electricity supply, agreement which should be submitted soon to the legislative body for ratification.

Note that this project will be entrusted to a Taiwanese construction company, and will include the construction and renovation of substations as well as transmission towers including training in maintenance of local staff. The project will be under the responsibility of the Overseas Engineering and Construction Co of Taiwan and could take about two years to complete according to estimates from reconnaissance missions.

Recall that the progress of this grid project had been temporarily suspended by Taiwan on February 19 last because of the socio-political troubles that crossed the country since February 7, before being reactivated again end of February.
