Port-au-Prince, Saturday, December 2, 2017- The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Pierre Simon Georges, Minister of the Interior and Territorial Communities, Max Rudolph Saint Albin and the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Aviol Fleurant, inaugurated the Camp-Perrin Germplasm Center, in the locality of Lévy, to contribute to the rehabilitation of the environment of the Great South severely affected more when Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti in October 2016.
The construction of this Germplasm Center capable of producing more than 4.5 million seedlings each year is a convincing testimony of the Moïse-Lafontant Administration's commitment to repair the damage caused by natural disasters to the environment of the Great South. to give hope to the citizens.
Also taking the opportunity to renew his promises to fight against social exclusion and corruption that hinder the progress of the Nation, President Jovenel Moïse also said that the Minister of National Education and Training has instructed to take all the measures deemed useful for reforestation to be included in the school curriculum of Haitian schoolchildren. An approach aiming to perpetuate the actions of the State and to transmit to future generations a pleasant living environment.
The Minister of the Environment, Pierre Simon Georges, who praised the commitment of the Head of State to allow the country to find a large plant cover, explained that an agreement was found with the Republic of Taiwan to fund the management of the Center. He also informed that a partnership agreement signed with Mexico will soon allow the construction of three (3) other germplasm centers across the country.
Constructed for a period of four (4) months, this germplasm Center consists of several blocks, including administrative buildings, a germ, a composting center, a research center as well as warehouses for tools and agricultural inputs, dormitories for executives and trainees, among others. It will also play an important role in the training of managers to work in the field of the environment.
