Biography

Emmanuel (Manny) Sandow, 18 years old, and a recent graduate of the Class of 2012 at Midland High School, has been involved with singing, songwriting and acting from a very young age; from singing in local, state, regional, national and international music groups, to a wide range of drama and theater productions. With years of training, he is now pursuing his dream in the fields of singing, songwriting, acting and modeling. He auditioned for the Recording Academy's prestigious GRAMMY CAMP in 2011 and was selected as an alternate, which is a very high honor. This year, Manny has written and recorded a Christmas song called “Wish List” released Tuesday, December 4th, 2012. Manny's debut single is available onCDBaby.com, iTunes, Amazon.com, and other online digital outlets. All net online proceeds will be given to the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan for all the support they have shown Manny throughout the years.

Born two months pre-mature, Manny was very sick and his body was shutting down. Due to an umbilical cord that was improperly circumcised, at the age of 5, Manny had to undergo surgery. After the operation, Manny lost 60% of his blood internally and had to be rushed back to the hospital where they sent him down to Detroit for more intense care. It took two years to figure out that Manny had a bleeding disorder. Around the age of seven, he was diagnosed with having Hemophilia Factor XIII Deficiency. Since then he has made a trip to Detroit Children’s Hospital every 4 weeks for a treatment that helps his blood clot. From the time of his diagnoses he was introduced to the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan. The HFM has been supportive in educating the family about the disease, conducting camps every summer for kids with hemophilia, and supplying bike helmets and medical tags. Manny has enjoyed camp, both as a camper and a counselor. They also have wonderful events for families, such as Springfest and Christmas parties.

Manny was born in Haiti March 30, 1994. When he was four months old, Manny was adopted by Patrick and Deborah Sandow who currently reside in Midland, MI. His siblings include, Spencer, who was another Haitian orphan, and Deborah Joy and Aubrey, who were foster children. His biological mother passed away during childbirth and it was at the same Ebenezer Glenn Orphanage in Dessalines, where his twin brother also passed. As far as is known, his biological father and older brother are still in Haiti.

Manny hopes that through his song he will inspire kids that having hemophilia does not have to hold them down. They, too, can follow their dreams and reach for the stars.

Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan: The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan strives to improve the quality of life for all people affected by hemophilia, Von Willebrand disease, other coagulation disorders, and related complications, including HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. The Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan offers numerous programs to support people living with bleeding and clotting disorders.

HFM began in 1956 as Hemophilia of Michigan, an all-volunteer chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, to “promote the welfare of those afflicted with hemophilia or related hemorrhagic disorders.” During the early years, HFM existed as part of the University of Michigan Hemophilia Treatment Center.
The National Hemophilia Foundation amended its bylaws in 1996 to change its formal relationship with its chapters. As a result, HFM was granted its own 501(c)(3) status (federal tax exemption) in 1997 after many years of being under NHF’s umbrella.
